Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik has developed a number of wool based washable fabrics with unique technical properties:
- Anti bacterial – tests show that even the most resistant bacteria like the MRSA is completely eliminated within 6 hours.
- Flame retardant properties are improved.
- Durability increased with at least 10% compared to similar fabrics not treated to be washable.
- Energy consumption is reduced – use of a wool washing programme at 30 or 40°C is sufficient, significantly reducing the energy consumption compared to normal washing at 60°C.
- Faster washing cycle – fabric to be centrifuged at highest speed and tumble dried. This provides a short washing cycle and the fabric can be put back on the furniture after a complete washing and drying cycle of less than one hour.
- Eco friendly – wool is a sustainable natural resource that is biodegradable.
- Flexible cleaning – chemical cleaning is also possible.
- High level of comfort – the natural properties of wool is retained. The fabric feels warm when it is cold and absorbs moisture well so that one feels comfortable also in warm environments. Odours disappear quickly and dust and dirt is easily removed.
The above properties are possible to achieve trough the addition of a specially developed polymer and a natural based fire retardant and anti-bacterial additive.
